Goa to become the first cashless state in India, will observe transaction through mobiles from December 31 onwards

manohar-parrikarCurrent Affairs:  Goa is all set to become the first cashless state in India from December 31 this year.
  • The government is now making efforts to educate the citizens regarding the general use of the digital platform to avail of this service.
  • Under the present service, the people will be able to but the articles of daily use such as vegetables, fish and other merchandise.
  • The customers will have to dial *99# and the process will then be followed in which the details will be filled to carry out the transaction.
  • After the easy steps, the money will be debited to the account of the seller who does not have a swipe machine.
Further saying, “Everybody should have an account, card and the account should have money.“
This move is intended to promote the cashless economy and the consumers will still be able to carry out transactions in cash.
The Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said that the mobile phones can now become your banks and urged the people to support this move by the Modi government. “One thing we decided is that whenever India becomes a cashless society, Goa will become the first. We have to support the prime minister’s dream”, he added.
